The Challenge
A fast-growing biotech firm needed a daily snapshot of case volumes across multiple product lines. A stop-gap deliverable was quickly implemented by the sales operations team, manually pieced together from disparate lab information systems and emailed to the executive team in a simple tabular format. The workload associated with the collection, assembly and quality review of the data required half of an MBA’s time, negatively impacting the team’s productivity. Additionally, the lack of process controls and documentation was a concern to the internal audit team, as the report was now being used as a metric of record for sales compensation purposes.
The Solution
The Concordia team worked with the client to create process and quality assurance documentation with step-by-step detailed instructions, screenshots and quality control procedures, ensuring full SOX compliance. The report was also re-designed to a graphical, user-friendly format, and for ongoing management an expert Concordia resource was assigned to produce the daily report. As a result, the client realized over $40,000 per year in costs savings and at the same time was able to re-focus the sales operations team on strategic support activities rather than tactical reporting.
The Challenge
A publicly-traded consumer products firm had undergone several re-organizations and a major acquisition in the past two years. Business unit performance data consisted of multiple financial reporting packages sourced from legacy systems, sales operations weekly reports and monthly manufacturing reports, totaling no less than twenty-four discrete deliverables per quarter. The senior management team, overwhelmed with data, needed a concise, balanced, view of business performance that included only the most relevant sales, operational, financial and workforce management metrics.
The Solution
Executive dashboards were created that captured a select set of the most relevant performance metrics across sales, operations, financial and human capital dimensions. A customized format was developed that enabled a dense, meaningful snapshot of performance data to be displayed on a single sheet. At the same time, process control procedures were implemented to ensure seamless change management in the event of future reorganizations, acquisitions or divestitures. The scorecard format and process were later rolled out to the firm’s three regions, and the twenty-four reporting packages were replaced with four dashboards, enabling dramatic improvements in performance management.
